The Economist Intelligence Unit has an unrivalled reputation for providing international companies with authoritative analysis on business, economic and political issues. Our Industry and Management Research division offers a range of compelling thought leadership products that are tailor-made to meet the needs of our clients. The deputy editor will play a key role in driving the growth of our custom publishing business in the Americas. You will be responsible for assisting the regional director in the development and running of the business. The candidate will help to formulate a strategy for the division and will be playing an essential role in implementing it.
The Deputy Director's principle role will be operational, improving editorial quality and processes. In order to keep pace with the rapidly growing editorial output, the new hire will track proposals, contracts and projects. In addition, the Deputy Director will monitor the cost of each project, as well as making sure they are completed on time. The role will also include supporting the Director in co-ordinating the work of the nine-strong editorial team with that of other teams in the Economist Group, in particular sales and conferences. The Deputy Director will report to the Regional Director of Industry and Management Research in New York.
In addition, The Deputy Director will plan and manage specially commissioned projects on a range of topical issues and will also edit high-quality business surveys, white papers and other research projects. The Deputy Director will be aware of and uphold the editorial values of the Economist brand.
The candidate must have substantial and outstanding experience as an editor and as an editorial project manager. You must be able to demonstrate excellent writing, editing and author management skills. Strong presentation, communication and numeracy skills are essential, and experience of dealing with board-level executives is advantageous. A good understanding of international business and management issues is crucial. Fluency in Spanish is also an advantage. Competitive salary and benefits.
Minimum requirements are a BA or BS and at least 10 years in a full-time position post-graduation.
