Development Manager

Location: New York

Economist.com is a premier online source for the analysis of global business and current affairs. It includes the full editorial from The Economist's print edition. The site also features a growing range of unique web-only content such as daily news analysis and columns, online debates, podcasts, Correspondent's Diary, Cities Guides for business travellers and articles on business education and management reading.

Economist.com seeks an experienced Development Manager to lead its team through a technology transformation. The ideal candidate will possess: experience architecting and developing a major website; a desire to do hands-on development; knowledge of open-source web technologies; a solid track record of delivering large projects on-time and on-budget; and experience managing a distributed team across time-zones. The role will require international travel to other Group offices.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Numerate
• 7 or more years in a managing a development team
• Architecting a platform solution for a major website
• Experience with a major CMS deployment
• Successful management of key suppliers
• Open-source technology, specifically PHP, MySQL, Linux and Apache
• Experience with ColdFusion highly desirable
• Superb leadership and team building skills
• Good negotiating skills
• Outstanding clarity of thought, ability to analyse business problems or opportunities and provide effective solutions
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good spoken and written English
• Capacity and willingness to perform duties with initiative and resourcefulness
• Customer focused and results oriented
• Ability to function in a collaborative environment; sensitivity to others; high integrity and intelligence; excellent judgment
• Commercially aware and Innovative
